Dr Garry McDonald The presentation will provide an overview of the need for and progress towards “education for sustainability” in the VET sector, and the role that the National Centre for Sustainability continues to have in this endeavour. Current options include courses and competencies in sustainability, but planning is now focusing on how sustainability may become embedded more widely in all courses Peter Collins HIA’s National GreenSmart training and accreditation program is an industry driven initiative that aims to encourage a mainstream application of the benefits of environmentally responsible housing. Developed in 1999, the HIA GreenSmart program promotes practical, affordable and durable environmental solutions for residential design and construction. GreenSmart is the only program of its kind in Australia that provides an overarching response to the construction and promotion of environmentally responsible housing along with an educational campaign for builders, designers, manufacturers and consumers. Jason Van Ballegooyen Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE has identified sustainability, environmental management and planning as key focus areas for future training program delivery and is implementing a range of sustainability initiatives across its education and operational arms. These initiatives include: · Membership of the National Centre for Sustainability (NCS) · Introduction of new training sustainability and planning programs in 2009 · Partnerships for development of sustainability and environment courses. · TNQIT organisational and operational sustainability policy and programs · Participation in regional sustainability initiatives.
